A Leader
What happens in my life is a small part chance and a large part what I make of those chances. In the last several years I have taken the lead on multiple projects and seen three job promotions. When we needed to modify our ACT database to capture new data, I read everything I could about the program and soon became the ACT administrator for the sales team. When our council facilitator left the company, I devoted hours to learning the trade and have since successfully lead more than seven of these focus groups.
A Listener
When you stop talking and actually listen to others, it opens up a whole new world of opportunity. Growing up in a small town in north Florida, I was never exposed much to other cultures. It’s only been in the last 5 or 6 years that I’ve really embraced diversity, realizing how much you stand to gain from listening to others talk about their lives. A road trip up the US east coast, three days in the French Quarter and five weeks in Sydney have broadened my mind and changed the way I think forever. Not that venturing far is necessary: right across the hall from me for years, my boss, a great-hearted older guy from RI with loads of insurance sales experience has taught me many things, and one I hope I never forget: Humility. His three rules for life are: “Live simply, give more and expect less.”
A Dreamer
Never sitting still for too long, because the world is constantly changing, all of my achievements began with a dream to better myself and those around me. I started the Vanguard Gold, a company newsletter because we needed another communication channel to build stronger relationships with our customer, the agent. In the process I proved my writing and leadership abilities and was promoted from receptionist to marketing assistant immediately.
